Compressed Biogas Production from Wet Waste
Wet organic waste — food scraps, kitchen waste, agricultural residues, sewage sludge — is one of the most energy-dense and underutilised resources on the planet. Vogen Energy's biogas production systems capture that potential, converting it into compressed biogas (CBG) that can replace fossil fuels across cooking, heating, transport, and power generation.
How It Works: The Wet Waste to Biogas Pathway
Wet Waste Collection & Segregation
Organic wet waste is collected from residential, commercial, municipal, and agricultural sources. Proper segregation at source maximises biogas yield and reduces contamination. Vogen Energy supports clients in designing efficient collection and pre-processing systems.
Pre-Treatment & Shredding
Incoming waste is shredded, de-packaged (where applicable), and mixed with water to create a homogeneous slurry. This increases surface area for microbial activity and ensures consistent feedstock quality entering the digester.
Anaerobic Digestion
The slurry enters sealed anaerobic digesters where microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of oxygen. Over 15–30 days, this biological process produces raw biogas (a mixture of methane and CO₂) and nutrient-rich digestate as co-products.
Biogas Purification & Compression
Raw biogas is purified through scrubbing to remove CO₂, hydrogen sulphide, and moisture — upgrading it to over 90% methane content. The purified gas is then compressed into cylinders or piped directly as Compressed BioGas (CBG), equivalent in quality to CNG.
Energy Distribution & Use
CBG can be used for cooking, industrial heating, vehicle fuel, or electricity generation. Vogen Energy designs distribution systems tailored to each project — from community-scale piped biogas networks to commercial cylinder filling stations.
Digestate Recovery as Biofertiliser
The liquid and solid digestate remaining after digestion is a nutrient-dense biofertiliser rich in nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Processed and applied to agricultural land, it replaces synthetic fertilisers and restores soil health — completing the circular economy loop.
